Hello everybody.

 

I don't know if I'm writing the question in the right place (if not I'm sorry)

 

Since I work in the plastic industry I've been told that plastic is considered recyclable up to 5% EVOH incorporation.

I've already looked in the legislation and I can't find this information.

Can anyone tell me where I can check?

PE is hydrophobic and EVOH is hydrophilic. The blended PE/EVOH sounds like water and oil. Too much of EVOH doesn't mix well with polyolefin in general. Many reported experiments agree that the maximum percentage of EVOH is about 6% in order to keep desired mechanical properties (e.g. elastic modulus), barrier properties (WTR, OTR) and stability (insignificant degradation) in re-processing (grinding into pellets; melting & moulding) & in phase separation. In fabrication practice, people choose 5% instead.

 

Legislation only requires manufacturers to declare the percentage of recyclable weights of material. You can have a look on EU 94/62/EC or EN 13430.

my colleagues have told me that it was in the legislation and I searched a lot and couldn't find it.....now I understand why
