Hi Everyone,

I have been tasked with implementing a barcoding system for my plant.  We want to barcode everything from raw materials coming, work in process, and finished goods going out the door.  I currently have a free barcode software but I am looking for something better that will print consecutive numbered barcodes and also a system that I can track things once the barcodes are scanned.  Does anyone have recommendations?  I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has a barcoding system in place.

Thanks!

I have used both Oracle and SAP. Both have barcoding and traceability features.

I worked more in SAP and liked it, however, some people find it difficult. I was able to have all my recipes loaded, automatically deducted from inventory based on the schedule, contact vendors for non-conformances for ingredients or packaging, place inventory on hold, look up locations for product, and conduct traceability exercises. Also used it for Maintenance's programs and inventory. So again - does more than just printing out barcodes.

Unsure about cost for both products.

Kind regards,

SAP is enterprise software----beautiful (albeit difficult in the beginning) to use, VERY VERY expensive

I have used this company before

http://www.can-trac.ca/

They are easy to work with----benefit to you is with the current USD to CND exchange, this will save you some $$

It can do what you need it to do, can also be used for traceability as you can then scan the barcodes to put ingredients into a batch, and finished goods out the door

We use Sharp Shooter from Advantzware. We use it for real time inventory management, barcoding, traceability.

If you are working with a fairly low budget... You could always use Google Sheets to do most of what you would like to do. Though it will take a bit of setting up on your end. I put together this quick example of how you can use Sheets to generate barcodes/qr codes and track your raw materials through your process.

If you have questions about this type of system just let me know.
