Laundries (both in-house and contracted) must ensure that:

•Dirty and clean clothing is adequately segregated to ensure that recently laundered items are not re-contaminated.

•The protective clothing is effectively cleaned – for example, microbiological validation and verification tests have been completed.

•Protective clothing for high-risk and high-care areas is commercially sterile following laundering. ‘Commercially sterile’ means the removal of vegetative forms of micro-organisms associated with food poisoning and/or spoilage (to achieve this, a garment should be processed at a temperature no lower than 65°C for a minimum of 10 minutes, or be processed at a temperature no lower than 71°C for a minimum of 3 minutes or in accordance with local regulatory requirements).

•Cleaned clothes are protected from contamination until delivered to the site (e.g. through the use of covers or bags).

Your post applies to High-Risk and High-Care Zones not BRCGS general requirements. It is from BRCGS Global Standard Food Safety Issue 8 Interpretation Guideline Section 8.7 Protective Clothing in High-Risk and High-Care Zones, Clause 8.7.1

In addition, the guidance states: Home laundering is not considered suitable for protective clothing used in high-risk or high-care areas.

 

General requirements are in Section 7.4 Protective Clothing: Employees or Visitors to Production Areas Clause 7.4.3 Laundering of protective clothing …. etc.

Note:

Washing of protective clothing by the employee is exceptional but shall be acceptable where the protective clothing is to protect the employee from the products handled and the clothing is worn in enclosed product or low-risk areas only.

what's chemical used and dosage for laundry

The used chemical(s)/product for laundry should:

a) allowed by local authorities (also with regard to safety, environment, ...)

b) suitable for reaching the desired cleaning level (for example, when the clothes are used in high care/high risk areas: commercially sterile -> minimal time-temperature combination is applicable).

 

The dosage depends on the type of chemical(s)/product used and will be specified by the supplier, along with the best time-temperature combination for effectiveness.

 

When the laundry is done in-house, the validation and verification of this process will be difficult, but not impossible.

 

At our company, we outsource the cleaning of the laundy because it does require a certain specific expertise. The outsourced company is certificated for certain cleaning standards, for example: NBN EN 14065:2016 - https://www.nbn.be/s...065-2016_21798/

 

This standard ensures the microbial quality of the laundry.
