SQF certified facility who has an approved supplier program in place with both suppliers and brokers. I am needing some clarification and I cannot find anything in the code in regards to my question. We have a number of brokers who purchase ingredients for us whether outside of the US or in the US. Do I need to have the manufacturing site (who the broker gets the ingredients from) approved in my program and get their third-party certs, food safety programs, etc. or do I just need the broker to be approved and write in my program that the broker is responsible for maintaining food safety documentation for the ingredient supplier that they purchase from? Thank you in advance.

You contact the brokers and have them contact their suppliers to provide them with your list of what you need - the info goes to the broker and then to you.

You may have to get the same info from the broker themselves if they are purchasing from a supplier where the product is either directly handled by the broker (as in re pack or direct contact with food) or may sit in the broker watehouse before being shipped to you.

Hi Hanna,

Posted in BRC forum. Just to be careful, which Standard applies ?

I anticipate that BRC is likely to be much more definitive.

Agree with SQFConsultant.  Some brokers will push back as they won't want you to know who they get your supplies from, but stand firm and don't be afraid to push back and say if they cannot provide then you will not be able to purchase from them.
