Now I am a leader of HACCP team, do I need to have a certificate on awareness of BRCGS version 9 when I had a certificate on version 8 before?

Thank you for helping me!

Hi nhalam,

:welcome:

Welcome to the IFSQN forums.

The BRCGS Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 9 Clause 1.1.9 states:

The site shall have a genuine, original hard copy or electronic version of the current Standard available and be aware of any changes to the Standard or protocol that are published on the BRCGS website.

You will need to get up to speed with Issue 9, this can be done by obtaining a copy of Issue 9 (available here) and comparing it with Issue 8. A quicker and easier method is to purchase the BRCGS Guide to Key Changes in Issue 9 Document

It isn't a requirement but if it makes you more comfortable you can get training via the BRCGS Academy. They offer training on BRCGS Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 9: Conversion for Sites

Also, as per Clause 1.1.9, you will need to be aware of changes that are made subsequent to the BRCGS Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 9 being published. Changes are communicated by BRCGS in the form of Position Statements. Position statements are published on the ‘Food Safety Help and Guidance’ page of the BRCGS website and available on BRCGS Participate. They are also communicated via the BRCGS newsletter. This newsletter is sent to all certificated companies.

Kind regards,

Tony

Personally I only had training on 8. Prior to and around the release of 9 I attended a number of free webinars focusing on the changes between 8 and 9. We purchased the physical copy of 9 as well as the implementation guide, and I reviewed the big changes with our food safety team. During our recent audit, our auditor seemed fine with that. We're a pretty small company so I didn't want to attend a BRCGS Academy class for issue 9 if there wasn't a requirement to do so. For issue 8 I was waking up at 3AM to attend virtually, and I really didn't want to repeat that, haha.

Hi Christina,

If you had training on Issue 8 then I think the change document (if you want to get up to speed quickly) and the guidelines (in particular for new requirements) would be sufficient for you to be up to speed. I don't see the value in going over the whole standard again just get up to speed with the new changes unless someone wanted a refresher.

Be interesting to know if the were any surprises in your Issue 9 audit?

Kind regards,

Tony
