Hello,

I have a lot of questions today lol >.<

Does anyone know if food contact packaging purchased from China has to be FDA approved to be used here?

The company is BRC for packaging but the packaging itself is not FDA approved. I tried looking online and on FDA but things are very vague. If anyone has any direct links I can go to for information that'd be great!

Anything helps, thank you.

Last i checked, the FDA doesn't approve packaging materials

It's up to you to determine if it meets food contact standards  (FYI California has additional requirements)

FDA doesn't approved packaging materials, but there are Federal codes pertaining to food packaging that should be observed.  All of my packaging vendors provide letters of guarantee that their films/bags/contact containers meet US CFRs.  You'll also want them to state the packaging does not contain allergens (previous job, customer provided pink bags for their product and the pink layer of film was colorized using shrimp shells).  Ideally, they'll state the packaging they're providing to you is suitable for the product you intend to fill it with.

As additional info, if you make an organic product you'll want to ensure that your packaging suppliers are not exposing the packaing material to prohibited substances.

This is a subject that many organic certification bodies have honed in on in recent years.

As others stated, the FDA isn't going to "approve" packaging.  The only exception I can think of would be to establish with your specifications or a COA/LOG that any materials it is made of are GRAS or otherwise non-reactive food safe substances.

Pouches made out of asbestos or calf skin would probably not make you any friends.
