Hello everyone,
does all lactose get removed when making yogurt ? yogurt not cause lactose intolerance

I want a scientific reference, such as the FDA, related to this topic

Hi suhaibalbadawi97,

 

Most yogurts made from cow’s milk still have lactose, because not all the lactose is broken down during the fermentation process, and can cause intolerance. Some specialised dairy yogurts may be lactose free because they are subject to additional steps including filtration and the addition of lactase.

 

Most non-dairy yogurts are likely to be lactose free.

 

See guidance below for information regarding lactose in the EU by the University of Reading which is a reliable source.

 

Guidance on “Free-From” Allergen Claims

In EU legislation, thresholds for making a “lactose-free” claim have only been defined for infant and follow-on formula, which prescribes that the lactose content should be ≤ 10 mg/100 kcal (2.5 mg/100 kJ). A number of European countries have specific guidance thresholds for lactose however a level has not been adopted in general EU legislation.

Does what was mentioned about lactose apply to the protein in yogurt?

protein in yogurt cause allergy ??

Yes the protein in cow's milk is a major allergen

 

The FDA also advise that people with milk or egg allergies should consult their health care provider before consuming milk or eggs from other animals.
