Hello,

Im very new to the SQF system. We just passed the SQF Audit first time in my company, but one of the findings is that:

2.5.1.1: Your validation procedure needs to include all the prerequisite programs that are applicable to your facility. It seems that there are several missing such as pest control, maintenance, training, waste management, etc.

We have corrected the other issues and maybe am just tired but am having a hard time trying to validate the waste management? Help?

Hi maya1994,

:welcome:

Welcome to the IFSQN forums.

This can be done by internal audit or inspection to ensure you are managing waste as per your procedure and the requirements of the SQF Food Safety Code.

Kind regards,

Tony

During your annual evaluations of your waste management program, check deviation or CAPA logs for things related to waste management:  did you document problems with trash not being emptied when needed?  Did you encounter trash on the floor repeatedly in GMP audits?  Did you have any cases where your contracted waste management did not meet their contract pickup times?  Are the trash cans being lost/moved around vs where you describe they should be on your facility map?

Documenting that you've reviewed the program and that it is effective as it is written will serve as validation of your program.  The trick is to sit down with your team and prove you've done this review by listing the things you've all checked and discussed.
