We are planning to expand our scope to include products manufactured by a contract manufacturer who holds SQF certification.

Could you please provide guidance on the additional documentation and requirements needed to successfully integrate them into our scope?

Hi JMJ JS,

For the FSSC 22000 certification scheme, you will need to comply with ISO 22000 section 7.1.6 which is essentially standard supplier management requirements, although contract manufacturing typically requires a higher level of scrutiny and management.

7.1.6 Control of externally provided processes, products or services

The organization shall:

a) establish and apply criteria for the evaluation, selection, monitoring of performance and re- evaluation of external providers of processes, products and/or services;

b) ensure adequate communication of requirements to the external provider(s);

c) ensure that externally provided processes, products or services do not adversely affect the organization's ability to consistently meet the requirements of the FSMS;

d) retain documented information of these activities and any necessary actions as a result of the evaluations and re-evaluations.

I would also discuss your plans with your certification body.

Kind regards,

Tony

Thank you for your response, Tony.

We’re considering conducting a supplier audit based on FSSC 22000 criteria and documenting the audit report, NCRs, and any corrective actions.

Do you think this approach will be sufficient? We’ve also sought advice from our Certification Body for further guidance.
