It isn't really "next to the line". More like they are just being kept in the same room as the cooking. I would think, them not being up on the catwalk where food is dropped into the machines to mix, and cleaning with a sanitizing wipe, after spraying off would be decent? I would, of course have to assign an area they are keeping them in.
If they are not going to pose any hazard to your process or spill then an assigned soak tub could work, then rinse, and use a sani-wipe.
