Hello all,

 

I NEED SOME HELP!

 

One of our product bags the net wt lbs and g are incorrect.

Is it legally ok to sticker the correct Net WT over the incorrect NET WT??

 

Just want to make sure this is legally ok.

So much depends on what this is. Meat, spices, packaging?

Also is it for the public, retail sale, or is it an ingredient to go to a supplier?

What kind of stickers? Pre-printed, hand-written?

 

in order for any of us to be helpful, we need to know more information.

Who made the error, the printer or your company?

You run the risk of the sticker coming off. Does your product go to the end consumer like an every day joe at a grocery store? or someone that is going to further process your product like a restaurant receiving a 12lb pack of brisket?

Hey all, thanks for the replies.

 

This is a bag of trail mix that will be sold in "grocery" stores. Thinking about labeling over and using super glue to ensure it will not come loose.

These would be pre printed stickers not hand written and only over the net wt area

 

My company - I made the error -

 

In the past we have had to add a Bioengineered sticker to a product before due to it missing off the bags and we had no issues with that just wasn't sure if this would be a bigger deal.

A sticker with good adhesive and printed corrections on it should be OK. If you can make a note of this hopefully small run, I think that should be sufficient.

super glue is NOT an acceptable choice           it dries out and they will fall off FYI

There are stickers that are designed just for this purpose.  Where they don't peel off easily and also have a specific backing so the print underneath does not show through.  This is just one of many print services that are available.  Check with these folks or find a more local printer would be my suggestion.  Considering this is a retail consumer facing product and the net weight is regulated you should assure that this application is sustainable through the shelf life of the product sitting on the retail shelf.

Agree with this, you can get the labels, I've had to use this kind of thing in the past in the UK.  Just check the labels don't have show through and definitely remove the print if they're peeled.  Make sure they're big enough so if they're applied a bit off centre, they still work.

 

If you do go ahead, make sure that you man up the line well and have someone checking they are accurately covering the weight.  You will probably need to do this manually so get some photo standards up, acceptable vs. non acceptable.  So people know what they're doing.

 

But... Depending on who you're selling to, it's worth checking they will accept this.  While it's legal in the UK, some retailers have it specifically in their procedures that it's not allowed for their branded items.  It would be so painful to go through the relabelling process and have to withdraw it anyway.
