[Tomato Country Girl]

Would be curious how people are dealing with kleenex on manufacturing floor.  Read in previous post they were told to create nose blowing station. Does anyone currently do this or how do you deal with not easily accessible to handwashing sinks in certain areas of plant do you use hand sanitizer, any particularly great products you have found to use.  Any help appreciated.

But, seriously on the subject of kleenex - NOT ALLOWED.

 

Id  a person needs to blow their nose - they leave the production area and do so.

 

Sanitizer does not replace washing the hands.

Agreed with SQFConsultant. Leave the floor to blow your nose, then wash your hands, and return.

If someone needs to use a Kleenex then either they are not well enough to be on the floor anyways or you another internal issue to address with dust, etc. which should be mitigated with PPE or collection systems.  Using a Kleenex on the floor is absolute no, next they will be picking noses and spreading S. Aureus around the place.

I could be reasoned with to allow a box of tissues to be kept at a handwashing station.  Plants I work in provide handwashing right as you enter the production room.  Walk over, blow nose, discard right where you discard the paper towels, wash hands, throw away paper towel, back to work.  Unless you're watching it all through the day, I'm sure employees would already be doing this with the paper towels available.  But allowing tissues anywhere else in production would be a hard, hard no.

 

That said, nwilson makes the best point about why the employees need to blow their noses so frequently that someone would want a tissue station to begin with.  Unless you worked at my old spice grinding facility, where sometimes we had to grind jalapeno and other hot pepper powders...  That stuff sucked, even with our dust collection that was pretty good.

I agree with the tissue part but you are forgetting about cold facilities and people with seasonal allergies. Or going from cold to warmer rooms in the building (production room or cooler to dry storage, etc.). We have individuals who wear masks to this day because of this. (They used to wear scarfs before COVID but masks are easier).
