In 2024, Nigerian food products were notified to the RASFF on 45 occasions, primarily sesame seeds, for the presence of Salmonella. It is surprising that Nigeria exports a certain amount of manufactured food products to the EU: soft drinks, cocoa preparations, edible oils, and snacks.
The vast majority of border rejections suffered by Nigerian products were a result of controls carried out pursuant to EU Regulation 2019/1793.
