Attached is what we use to verify all incoming labels. The FIRST of a new label gets stuck to a sheet of paper, inspected by the manager in charge of label purchasing (office manager), and signed off by her. It then gets placed in the master label book to be used as the verification check in the attached.

I don't have one which I can share unfortunately but the FSA has a good starting point.

Packaging and labelling | Food Standards Agency

Do make sure you compile something market and category specific because there are some peculiarities which apply to the UK (even over the EU) and to certain products.

When I made mine for one business we started with something similar to that FSA list but then added in checks on things which were typical or easy to get wrong vs. the pack copy, so things like:

Ingredients list and QUID including allergens (correctly spelled) and in bold or whatever method you're using.

Nutrition information correct matching specification.

Claims correct.

Barcode correct and scans.

Logos correct (including things like vegetarian claims etc)

And so on.

What you'll find is you start with a list and as you check each (or you find an error) you'll add to the list.  We ended up with one two sides of A4 long.  Probably excessive but it worked for us and you'd be shocked how many times we found things retailers or Ashbury missed.

Hello and thank you, I was looking for something more for checking art work when received from the printer

Here is what popped up in my mind.

2 main topics: Print details and colour matching.

1. Print details:

- Overall alignment, like positions of logo, border, mark

- Registration, usually <0.2mm

- Missed ink spot

- Ink splash

- Foreign contamination

- Extra print (by stretched substrate)

- Moirée

- Any deformation (scratch, grease, winkle)

2. Colour matching:

- Delta-E<2.0 with lighting D50 and/or F11:

+ Spot colour (mixed from primary colours)

  + CMYK with various densities, e.g. 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, etc.

  + Whiteness (i.e. delta-L)

  + Tone gradient & separation

+ TVI if you have equipment or resources

  + Opacity or haziness

  + Glossiness

- Visual inspection under D65 illuminance

3. Bonus: adhesion of ink onto substrate surface

- Scotch tape

- Pull force

4. Bonus 2: Colour stability

- Light flatness

- Heat resistance

- UV resistance

5. Bonus 3: Foodsafety

- Residue of solvent

- Taint and odour

- Migration

Sorry about those bonuses!

Daft question but this "sounds" like a job for AI.  Have you tried popping in a request into copilot or similar for UK legislation compliance?  It won't be perfect but it might give you a starting point.

Copy of checklist I have used is attached. Generally have used the first tab, the rest were part of the original document but may help in creating own format.

Regards

S.
