HACCP for distributors?

Hello community,

 

I recently got a NC on my third party audit for not having our admins that process/post paperwork HACCP trained since our inbound/outbound checklist is a CCP monitoring document 

 

Our warehouse is a smaller box-in box-out distributor and it seems like the HACCP training I can find both in person and online are more processing or serving specific.. i.e. cooking times, hold temps, food contact-surface... and most of the information while good to know is not relevant to our daily operation   

 

Does anyone know of a HACCP training program that is designed with distribution as the focus? 

 

We are based out of the west coast in the US

Surely a person who is only recording information to a shipping/receiving log or checklist isn't required to have a $299 HACCP certificate?  Your actual HACCP certified person on staff should be able to generate a training from your SOP related to the job being performed to run this CCP for your company.  As an example, I can confidently say no company I've ever worked for has paid for an outside certificate for the person(s) monitoring our x-rays or metal detectors, instead being trained internally to monitor a CCP to the standards established by our HACCP team.

This was my thought, I had been told as long as you had someone certified in HACCP overseeing or verifying the checks being completed by someone else then that was also acceptable and they didn't need their own HACCP certification. 

We ended up certifying our techs onsite because it allows for some more flexibility, but prior to that I was just training/  overseeing / verifying any CCP checks they had completed.

It's going to be entirely up to the rules/standard of that audit. CVS has their own crazy rules above and beyond SQF, and I hear Costco is even deeper in that game. That being said, I've never had an auditor have an issue with training given to those responsible for HACCP documentation, and none of them have had formal HACCP training, just "this is what you do to keep our HACCP in compliance" type training.

They absolutely need SOME TYPE of training on their HACCP responsibilities though, including at the least their role in it.
