Today in Manchester its raining again (surprise, surprise). We are famous here in Manchester for our rain, at least in the UK anyhow. I'm dreaming about vacations in warm, exotic locations. Has anyone been anywhere nice or got anything planned you want to talk about?

Not exactly the most exotic of climes, but there are six of us taking a 65foot narrow boat round the Birmingham/Coventry ring in July. Decent weather (hopefully) decent beer (definitely) and the experience to glide gently underneath motorway bridges watching the ratrace rumble past overhead, whilst clutching a pint of wagglers old peculiar and a bacon roll in t'other ............... don't knock it 'till you've tried it !

To add to this, the wife has just been to Wisconsin USA on a weeks training course (b*gg*r). Best I get are two days in a Novotel.

Must have been bad in a past life.

I have and it was fantastic! I was 11 and it was the summer of 1977 the year of the Queens Silver Jubilee and The Sex Pistols spitting and swearing their way to #1 in the charts with 'God Save The Queen'. I wasn't interested in all of that because I was with Sharon Armstrong and Karen Duffy on the school barge and we were into David Soul 'Dont Give Up On Us', The Carpenters 'Mr Postman' and snogging.

We travelled from Worsley on the Bridgwater Canal to Skipton in Yorkshire, probably about 35 miles and it took us a whole week. And what a week it was glorious sunshine, still water and me and my gals. We missed the street parties but we wouldn't have missed it for the world.

I would love to do it again sometime in the future, the pint of wagglers old peculiar and a bacon roll sound very tempting indeed...

:)
