You know often the customer; supplier relationship is perceived as a one way street. Intransigence (ball breaking) by purchasing managers may boost egos and seem smart but it's not. For any relationship to be successful in life or work it has to be win-win.

I've always made a point of asking major suppliers how I rank amongst their customers, what I'm good and bad at, and how I can become a better customer. It benefits both parties.

Screwing suppliers is moronic. Go on send your suppliers a survey questionnaire asking them to rate your performance as a customer. :)

Hi Wallace thanks for the update. I took the bit in blue below out of the ezine.

Peter Keen, in his 1997 book, The Process Edge, uses case studies to describe what he calls the process paradox.

The process paradox:

"businesses can decline and even fail at the same time that process reform is dramatically improving efficiency by saving the company time and money and improving product quality and customer service."

I believe we have made a major mistake in our advocacy of continuous improvement. Continuous improvement is the right idea if you are the world leader in everything you do. It is a terrible idea if you are lagging and disastrous if you are far behind. We need rapid, quantum-leap improvement. - Paul O'Neil chairman of Alcoa.

I don't quite agree with the Alcoa guy's philosophy. I believe incremental CI must be part of every organisations culture and often the very process of working on incremental improvements highlights an opportunity for the kind of quantum-leap improvement he talks about. It's not one or the other they are both important and complimentary tactics.

What I would say is don't settle for incremental CI alone (as some organisations plainly do) be prepared to get your wallet out and back a good idea if you see an opportunity to make a step improvement.

It's sort of what I was saying the other day when I commented on the CI visual you posted.

Regardless of the fads that come and go, I am compelled to be inspired and moved by, what is commonly called Kaizen, It just makes sense.
I'm reading an excellent little easy read called, "The Kaizen Way". The book is authored by Robert Maurer Ph.D. ISBN # 0-7611-2923-5
The book has a particularly psychological approach to Kaizen and, the author has a gift of putting the concepts, tools and techniques into words that make Kaizen clear and concise.
The author comes from a physicians approach to Kaizen and, I have been impressed by his attempt to take Kaizen, into the arena of human development.
I'm at the half way stage of the book at this time and, the tone of the book is definitely of a self help nature yet, I see the applications of this book contents in a generic way.

Yes, I've noticed you're a real advocate of Kaizen Wallace. Perhaps when you've completed the book you could share some of its concepts and wisdom, especially for those of us who'd like to read but never seem to find the time. I'm still (not) reading Henry Fords Lean vision and several other books.

I'm rather particular about the publications I read these days. There's just too much crap out there in publishing land.
Kaizen? Yeah, I admire it because, the man who infused the use of the PDCA tools, was responsible for the initial development of Kaizen.

I haven't forgotten about the Kaizen map I proposed. I'm kind of under doctors orders right now and, I'm staying away from my PC a lot these days.
Would any SDF folk like to contribute to the Kaizen information map? I could sure use some help to get it off the ground.
I'm basically looking for some image files that would represent the focuses of the Kaizen philosophy.

Well, I guess I'm looking for images that potential contributors believe are appropriate for making a Kaizen visual communicatively dynamic.
The more images the better. I could re-size the visual to a poster size of @ 24" x 34" with a minimum of 300 x 300 pixels per inch.
I've made up many poster sized visuals for business recently and they go down well, as part of internal communications initiatives that are aligned to training and information exchange/sharing.
