Just for fun.

You've been looking to change jobs for a while, and have been writing letters and doing interviews when out of the blue you receive two job offers.

Both jobs are for the position of Quality Manager in very similar organisations with the same job description, great salary and benefits etc.

You do your research on the companies' history, turnover, profitability etc. and you still you cannot separate them.

You have a look around both plants and talk to lot's of people, they're exactly the same in terms of machinery and equipment, except:

- In one organisation all of the people you talk to answer in one syllable monotone and appear to be very miserable and demotivated. The working environment reflects this.

- In the other organisation all of the people you talk to are attentive, enthusiastic and professional. The working environment reflects this.

Tell us which job you'd take and why?

I would apply for this one. Tough challenges for tough people
As a matter of fact, I wouldn' t be able to work in a different environment, since I bear years of experience in demotivation and harassment

As experience has taught me, there's absolutely no "Shangrila" when it comes to employment.
One one hand it seems everybody is on prozac and, on the other hand it seems their dog just died.
I would pass on the two offers and look for a balanced organization, it's way more safer and, gives you more room to grow.
I guess you need to be a psychologist who can profile people and systems at the same time to analyze the pro's and con's of this situation.

I'm not sure which I'd take. No I'd probably take the job at 'Cheerful', it's the natural choice. That said the people in both organisations would be of a similar make-up, it's just that their current attitudes are poles apart. And attitudes can be changed. Wouldn't it be fun though going into ‘Fed Up' and getting the workers interested and involved by working with some simple tools like 5's, Team-working, Kaizen etc. They have absolutely the same potential as the guys and gals at Cheerful, all they need is a morale boost, some self esteem and within no time you could put a spring in their step, a smile on their face and a song in their heart. OK sorry I'm getting carried away again. But come on if you pulled it off you could be their new messiah. Provided Senior Management let you.
