As the local Tescos is 24 hour, I prefer to go and do the trolley dodgems bit during the late evening, when its not overrun with kids etc.
Anyway, during the wander round ( I dont just go in with a list, fly round and out again, its kind of relaxing to meander a bit), I always find misplaced items around the store.
Not taking any notice of it at first, I started to think about the thought processes involved in someone walking halfway round the store with, say, a bottle of shampoo in their basket, until they get to the biscuit section. Here, they suddenly decide that they would much rather have a packet of hobnobs than the afore mentioned bottle of shampoo, and so leave the shampoo in with the biscuits.
Once you get your eye in to this, it can get quite amusing.
Examples I have found recently:-
Mens boxer shorts in the dog food section
6 individual fruit pies in the mobile phone section
a block of cheddar in the suncream section
loaf of bread in with the lightbulbs
a swiss roll in the womens underwear section ( I was with my wife this time, honestly!)
What on earth was going through someones mind, suddenly deciding that they would prefer a bikini to a swiss roll?????
Try it yourself - once you get your eye in, you'll never look into someones basket with the same casual interest again!
