Some background information about the award.
The Robert W. Campbell Award:
- Recognizes businesses that uphold SH&E as a key business value and link measurable achievement in SH&E performance to productivity and profitability.
- Establishes a validated process by which industries can measure the performance of their safety and health operations system against well-tested and internationally accepted key performance indicators.
- Uses a rigorous systematic review process to capture and evaluate the successes and lessons learned.
- Shares leading edge SH&E management systems and best practices for educational purposes worldwide.
Through case studies, an international Review Panel of experts and leaders look for measurable SH&E achievements linked to productivity, profitability, and other important business indicators. The first award winner was announced in September 2004. View the photo gallery.
The award program is supported by Global Partners committed to promoting SH&E as an integral component of business management worldwide. Outreach activities include identifying potential applicants and nominating candidates for the international Review Panel.
The Robert W. Campbell Award is managed by the National Safety Council, a U.S.-based public service organization dedicated to the safety, health and environmental well-being of all people since 1913. The Council believes that successful safety, health & environmental management is integral to successful business management. Improved workplace and environmental conditions benefit everyone: the worker, the company, and the community.
The award is underwritten by the Exxon Mobil Corporation through its philanthropic Foundation. The Foundation supports research and dissemination on selected topics with emphasis on education, health and environment.
The National Safety Council will publish exemplary case studies to help other organizations achieve business excellence through SH&E management. The award winner presented their results at NSC's Annual Congress & Expo, the largest annual convention in the safety industry. The winner was recognized at an invitation-only award banquet, and received the Robert W. Campbell Award trophy. Recipients may publicize their Award-winning accomplishments using the Robert W. Campbell Award logo and title.
