Hi,

As a 4-star hotel with 300 rooms, we are planning to get a food safety certification. We will work either with a company which uses E-Cristal or another company which uses Simply Safe. Can anyone compare these two systems? Which one is more suitable for a hotel like ours?

Thank you

Hi Norad
Can I ask what food safety certification you are going for?

Unfortunately I can't help much on the comparison- but I'm sure someone will be along soon who can!

I am going to make the assumption that Simply Safe is the one offered by STS?(correct me if I'm wrong!!)

As far as I am aware E-Cristal is an electronic based broad 'risk management' system for all aspects of safety hotel/Leisure industry- (so not just food safety)-judging by the companies I have heard are using it, it would suggest that it is very suitable for complex multi-site operations to manage the whole H&S/Risk Assessment/Audit process-not sure if it might be overkill for one hotel- I am sure someone will correct me on this if I am wrong!

The Simply Safe- that I am familiar with is a bespoke HACCP based(paper?) system for food premises- as I understand it, it is developed by a consultant for your business to meet your needs and covers just food safety-not the whole risk assessment process(as above)

I guess which one you go for will depend which one aligns with your business needs- and delivers the outcome you require. IMO I think when the implementation is to be done by an external company, it's success depends on their knowledge of your business, the legislation in your country and the requirements of the 'food safety certification' you are going for

Ask them for examples of organisations similar to yours where they have already implemented- go and visit a site where their systems are in use and see it in action!!

Regards
Mike

Yes, Simply Safe is offered by http://www.sts-solutions.com/ . They have a partner -National Britannia Turkey- here who is responsible for implementation and audits. That company in fact was I believe partners with National Britannia which was aquired by Connaught PLC a few years ago.

Cristal system is offered by Diversey and they list their certified hotels under http://www.checksafetyfirst.com

You are right about Cristal, too. It has different modules such as Food Safety, Pool Safety and Legionella. As it can be seen on http://www.checksafetyfirst.com, it seems to be suitable to hotels. However, Simply Safe by STS also offers the same modules.
