In section [a] we must provide adequate numbers, locations and means of hygienically washing, drying and, where required, sanitizing hands (including wash basins, supply of hot and cold or temperature controlled water, and soap and/or sanitizer);

And in section [c] provide an adequate number of toilets of appropriate hygienic design, each with hand washing, drying and, where required, sanitizing facilities;

What is considered adequate in a facility on a small single site with 60 employees – is there a standard simple ratio?

Regards,
Brendon

Dear brendon,

There are 2-3 detailed threads on this topic here (for general food factories), primarily answered by data from Codex.

Suggest to try a little searching. :smile:

It is good to work with your local council to enusre firstly that you meet the local legislation and they should be able to guide you on this.

Yes there are normally laws, but I they are not coming from the food safety point of view but more from a health and safety point of view.

Here is the previous discussion thread Charles referred to: Number of handwashing stations

Dear Brendon
For the considered adequate in a facility on a small single site with 60 employees:
- For Section "A" the number and locations of these hygienic facilities is designed according to your production line flaw chart ; at the inlet of production area also in-between each production line, ...etc. also see the discussion forum as Mr Simon comment.
- For section "C" the known numbers of toilets of appropriate hygienic design is one per 15 employees, so you need 4 toilets of appropriate hygienic design for your 60 employees.
Best Wishes,
Youssef

Dear brendon,

A little mental arithmetic shows that the total toilet numbers according to Codex may depend on the M/F aspect (unless they can be unisex at yr location :smile: ).

eg 30/30 >>>>6 installations
or 50/10 >>>>7 installations
