In closed system ( fully automatic filling & packing machine area) can we have a pest catching machine an electrical one (where in the insect body disintegrates when comes in contact with the UV light) ?

In my experience with the BRC standard this is permitted as long as it not directly above open product areas.

In general I have observed these units in many enclosed filling and packing areas. Ensure they are located correctly that in the event of disintergration of an insect product is not put at risk i.e. that short space between filling and capping and that empty containing before entering the filling / packaing machine are suitably covered.

Hi Pranav,

Electric Fly Killers are generally accepted with the proviso that you have determined there is no risk to product contamination.

Typical requirements prescribed in food safety standards are:
If there is a danger of insects being expelled from a fly-killing extermination device and contaminating the product, alternative systems and equipment shall be used.
Those with catch trays must not be positioned where the insects may be blown out by air movement.

AIB Standard prescribes a distance:
4.13 Insect Light Traps - Critical Requirements
4.13.1.1 Insect light traps are installed farther than 10 ft. or 3 m from food contact surfaces, exposed products, packaging, and raw materials in processing or storage areas.

As well as exposed product and container areas identified you will need to consider lids/caps.

To avoid all issues regarding EFK`s in high risk production areas glue board fly killers are the obvious answer, no insect fragments to worry about.

There may be some additional maintenance costs but these will be outweighed by the reduced risk to your product

Please do not forget the possibility of glass fragments in case of breakage except the UV light tubes have been coated with some films to prevent breakage.
