I would just like to thank all the people from all around for your questions and input in this forum. We had our BRC enrollment audit Feb 4, 2013 (42 minors) and our follow up audit yesterday and ended up with only 5 minors (A Grade), one of the minors was because the auditor found one group of papers held together with a staple one little staple.

This took 15 months to work on. I spent a lot of time on the site reading and learning about BRC and what to expect which truly helped out. We decided not to have a a pre-audit. If there was one thing I would recommend, it would be to do one of those before you have your real audit. I love BRC and what it does to our facility. When you add quality responsibility to all the departments you can see a difference. Thanks again to all of you. One plant down now it's time to start on the second plant.

Wonderful news.

It's a tough standard and if you get a good auditor it's not easy. 1 x staple = 1 x minor NC...and with >10 minor NC's = Grade B, then to get grade A is a great achievement indeed, especially on your first audit. If the IFSQN forum has assisted in any way I am very pleased about that.

Oh how I so hope to be able to post a similar message in about 6 months time when we've had our first BRC audit - we will be going for a pre-audit, so fingers crossed (and legs.....)......!!

we are currently prepping for our first audit and I was wondering if I might be able to clarify a couple things with how you received your outcome.

 

The Summary of Grading Criteria says for 31 or more that a re-audit is required, is that what you ended up doing and where the final grade was reflected from? If so, were many of those 42 minors things that you could fix while the auditor was present or were they mainly things you had to make Corrective Action Requests for?

This was our first BRC audit so we went with the enrolment program.  We recieved 42 minors, no food safety issue at all.  Most of them I just didn't fully understand the clause.  Now this is where a pre-audit might be of help.  The problem with a pre-audit is you can't use the same auditor, that my understanding.  Having the enrolment program allowed me to have our first audit, fix what needed to be fixed and then have the second audit with the same audior.   Don't get me wrong the second audit was just like the first audit.  The auditor went over everything, the difference was I knew what I needed to have ready and it went much smoother.    I had about 6 items I corrected while the auditor was here.  The rest I had to take care of before the next audit.  On our second audit I had 3 out of the 5 minors that we corrected during the audit.  Good luck with your audit
