Can someone help me find information regarding the traceability requirements (if any) for food products going from a distributor to food service/retail c-stores (In the USA)?

 

I was under the impression that the distributors needed to record the lot dates of products they distribute to their customers, whether it was a case of product or eaches of product. Please help. Perhaps I'm thinking FSMA?

You start your trace from the point of where you get the product from. It has to come from some where for you to distibute it. ( Orchard, another warehouse, )

Even if you pack it and grow or produce it in your warehouse you should have a code to have some sort of traceability.

The traceability can be as simple as we received lot 1254 from Oregon packers,

  sits in  cold room #10 . Lot 1254 went out on truck XYZ at 12 PM.Lot 1254 arrived at destination on January 25th, 2013.ect.

I understand the one up, one back traceability...what I'm looking for is the actual US regulation stating it has to be done between distributors and from distributor to food service/retail/final customer.
