Hi,

BRC point 4.9.1.2 says

"Where strongly scented or taint-forming materials have to be used, for instance for building work, procedures shall be in place to prevent the risk of taint contamination of products"

At the moment we have put this in our contractor management papaerwork not to bring anything like that to site, but I have a feeling that at some point someone will need to bring smelly stuff for use.

Has anyone of you have a procedure which could be shared with me please?

Regards

Agnes

Hi Agnes,

As well as contract agreements you should have a 'permit to work' that is completed prior to any work being carried out. This should ensure control of the work carried out, of chemicals/materials used and that the work is supervised by someone responsible on site.

Regards,

Tony

Hi Agnes,

For us, we have it listed in out GMPs that no one is to wear any strong scented/taint materials in regards to perfumes and cologne, etc.

However, in regards to materials for repairs, building maintenance, etc. we state in a policy that anything used must be approved by our HACCP Coordinator prior to use and if it is unavoidable that something needs to be done using a chemical/material with strong scent/taint, we have it written in that same policy that it is to be used when production is not running and when there is enough time to allow the area to 'air out'.

We had our audit in august and received an A grade so, for us at least, this covered our requirements.

I hope this helps!
