I must confess that this topic usually leaves me in utter confusion. Various posters have requested illustrative, practical, numerical examples. So far, all the contributions have mystified rather than enlightened me.
It should be so simple, ie - Input = Output + Losses
The problem as usual is in the (process) details, eg frying causes X%water loss but Y%oil addition.
