Hi,

This is really for anyone who's been through BRC already and uses 3rd party hauliers. I'm just doing some gap analysis for our site and we use third party hauliers to collect and transport our goods, the self assessment tool doesn't clarify whether inspection & monitoring relates to all methods of transport or just if a company has their own.

:) where third party hauliers are used the above needs to be clearly defined in the contract and they shall be certificated  to the global standard for storage and distribution.

Yup... do up a transport COP and copy all the criteria from the standard into it and get third party hauliers to sign it, that covers you. Also, request a breakdown procedure and a cleaning procedure if you can get it out of them and have them on file. Also, make sure you record the inspection of trailers for condition and cleanliness somewhere.Oh ...and keep a record of any breakdowns or incidents involving your transport.

I'm entitled to my opinion, even a stopped clock is right twice a day

Specifically the answer to 4.14.2 was in  4.14.6 -

Where the company employs third-party contractors, all the requirements specified in this section shall be clearly defined in the contract and verified or the contracted company shall be certificated to the Global Standard for Storage and Distribution or similar GFSI-recognised scheme.

Or to put it another way - the word "All" in 4.14.2 "All vehicles or containers used for the dispatch of products shall be inspected prior to loading to ensure
that they are fit for purpose"  actually did mean "All".

Kind Regards,

ChefsKitchen -

Please re-read 4.16.6 -

the requirements shall be clearly defined in the contract and verified OR the contracted company shall be certificated to GFSI.

That 2 letter word "OR " makes a big difference!
