Hello,
I'm wondering about methods of monitoring air quality/purity. To attain SQF lv.2 we need to monitor for air purity and we currently do not do so. Any thoughts on an efficient way of doing this, both operationally and financially?

Hi Dwells,
Take a look at the article Simon posted, The Major Contaminants in Compressed Air written by Ruby Ochoa. It is a good starting point to understand the sources of air contamination. Ochoa's suggestion to use durable, non-reactive materials in the design and construction of the air system is a good one. We also use a series of filters at intake and when sending air to be sure we capture the particles inevitably show up. Pressure gauges at the outflow are monitored daily to ensure that there is not a build-up of particles captured in the filters. Filters are inspected weekly for signs of wear. Air samples are collected twice a year and sent to an independent lab for analysis. Preventive maintenance is key to avoiding oil or other materials from getting into the air. There are other factors in developing a good clean air system that may be specific to your product and process flow. Working with a good compressed air manufacturer and an outside lab you can develop a set of processes for your air system and specifications for reliable clean air delivery that will meet SQF standards.
Good luck!

The amount of effort required may well depend on what you are doing.
