Hello again!

 

Reviewing our Approved Supplier program and noticed a few things missing, so in the process of updating I am now questioning what else is missing. I am curious if anyone includes any of the following in their Approved supplier programs;

 

Carrier Transportation Providers

Training services (Food Quality Safety and Health & Safety)

PPE Suppliers

Cold Storage Facilities

Micro Test Labs

 

Somewhere I had read to only include Suppliers/services that have an impact on the finished product. I am thinking these should all be included in the program, but the questioning "Does the service impact the finished product?" makes me question a few of these.

Yes we include the services you've already mentioned, plus a few others.

I use excel for my approved supplier list - I use a tab for each supplier which include 'Ingredient', 'Packaging' 'Transport' & finally 'Services'

A few others you might want to include under services;

 

 

Service Type BRC Body Fire Extinguishers Metal Detection Cleaning Chemicals Pest Control ATP Test Kit/ Swabs Hand Swabbing Lab Tests Courses  Food Safety/ HACCP etc Courier service Allergen Testing Waste Transport Pesticide Testing Scale Calibration

We don't include training or PPE suppliers. Never been challenged. However, we were challenged over lack of packaging and Warehouse/Distribution risk assessment in our assessments.

Those service suppliers are handled under contract suppliers for our program.  One exception, any third-party warehouse we audit / inspect ourselves and approve them based on the audit / inspection.

Packaging suppliers (both with food contact and non food contact)

Transporters

External storages

Sub-contractors

Pest control

Auditors (both for internal audits and BRC)

Machine suppliers/service companies (especially for the CCP machines)

Catering

IT-suppliers
