Creating a Strategy for Quality
Every project plan should address quality management issues in order to provide the highest quality products and services. Project quality applies to both deliverables and process quality.
A quality management strategy defines the required quality level for the project and the approach to be used to ensure that this level is achieved. A more detailed quality management plan is developed in the planning stage.
A Quality Management Strategy should include:
- Quality Objectives
- Deliverables subject to quality strategy
- Processes subject to the quality strategy
- Quality standards and methods to be applied
The Project Manager, project sponsors and project stakeholders should all be involved in the creation of the strategy. The final outcome should be the Quality Management Strategy component of the Project Plan.

Hi Lorraine,
Not sure what you managed to achieve in a week- that was a big ask!
My advice would be to look at what the end goal is here- i.e. what kind of system you want to implement. A larger food company would generally be planning to obtain a GFSI accreditation such as BRC, SQF or ISO 22000. In this case I would get a hold of the relevant standard and use that to frame the scope of the program.
This is probably far too much work for a smaller or new company, in which case you can look at lighter audit programs, such as a GMP or HACCP audit to ensure you have the right foundations in your production and build on that. In the UK there is also the SALSA standard (https://www.salsafood.co.uk/) aimed at small producers- this has a pared down version of a quality system set up by the BRC and other industry bodies to cover that gap of smaller quality systems for smaller enterprises. Again, this will give you a framework for the start of a quality program and will get you thinking along the right lines.
I hope that gives further inspiration, and good luck!
Ben
