Hello!

I am relatively new to SQF system and I have a question regarding the GMP inspections and the internal audit for module 11.

From my training, it was explained that module 11 of the SQF system covers the GMPS.

We have it set up now that we have a monthly internal audit for each program and has an associated on-site portion.

I.e. January - internal audit for 11.1.1-11.1.8 , on-site portion of audit covers inspections for each section (11.1.1-11.1.8).

My questions to you is do ALL GMPs need to be covered during monthly inspections or is it okay to separate them as we have been doing (only covering certain GMPs each month).

Please let me know your thoughts!

Thank you!

Per 2.5.4.1 - you need to have an intenal audit that  covers your entire food safety program (both section 2 and 11).   in the past for this i have used the checklist available on the SQFI website for download.   this should be done at least annually.   this is an opportunity for you to review your policies, procedures, programs and ensure that they meet the sqf standard and are effective.

Per 2.5.4.3 - you need to have a monthly inspection of the plant for hygiene, maintenance, etc.   In the past i have taken the appropriate sections from section 11 to make a audit template (doors, walls, floors, cleaning, maintenance, waste, grounds, etc.   All areas and audit items of this inspection should be completed every month.

there is a guidance document on the sqfi website regarding internal audits.  However, it really doesn't mention the monthly GMP inspections.   it its in the resource center where the checklists are located.

I hope this helps

Thank you so much kingsstudruler1, that was very helpful!

Our internal audit does cover both module 2 and 11, I was just primarily concerned with internal audit for module 11 and how our inspections were arranged.

Would you be willing to share your template?

Again, thank you very much!

I mispoke about the gmp/ hygiene inspction.   the sqf code say they need to be "regular"   so there may be some leeway for frequency.   most people would complete these monthly.

I made the audit template for a company i was helping out.   ill try and locate it an send attach it

I've attached mine.  It is probably too detailed and lacking in areas, but it has been appropriate for the auditor we have had the last 4 times.Attached File  2.5.4 F3 GMP Monthly Inspection Form.docx   30.2KB   303 downloads

Hi All,

I prefer to organize this area with audits and inspections in 2 ways:

1. Conduct internal audits of compliance to ensure that company prescribed standards and infrastructure comply with Module 11: Good Manufacturing Practices for Processing of Food Products.

2. Carry out inspections of operations by area to ensure that the area environment and equipment is maintained in a suitable condition for food production and that the standards of hygiene are being maintained. The frequency of inspections should be based on risk, so filling areas are usually the highest risk and raw material areas by comparison less risk

Attached is an extract from part of the IFSQN Practical Internal Audit Training which covers this area and also there are some example forms in there.

Thanks for informative lists in Posts 5/6/8.

Might also note that some auditorial-oriented versions also include Ma/Mi/Se/Critical appendages together with overall Rating criteria.

Kind Regards,

Regardless the scheme, GMP audits.... where you actually go out and check on the condition of the facility, and if people are following GMP's, I do this way:

Divide your facility into four areas. A, B, C, D or whatever you want to call them.

Conduct an inspection of each area on a weekly basis i.e., week one area A, week two area B, etc.

That way you conduct an inspection of the entire facility each month, which is the general requirement of each GFSI approved auditing scheme that I am aware of.
