Are there any GFSI schemes that would certify a wash station that washes food grade tankers?  If not, is there an industry standard audit that best fits this process?

The closest I recall seeing is one or two wash stations in Europe that have ISO22000, but it seems to be very rare, and I don't remember seeing any with GFSI-benchmarked certification.

It might be worth seeing if there is an industry association for wash stations in the US, as in the Europe the industry association EFTCO (European Federation of Tanker Cleaning Organisations) runs an assessment process that is fairly well recognised here. If it's a useful reference then various of the documents for this, including their "Food Questionnaire" audit template for food-specific transport, are available on their website: https://www.eftco.org/downloads

The other part of their assessment is via SQAS questionnaires, available from the SQAS website here: https://www.sqas.org...estionnaire.php

The most likely would be some suppliers certified to BRCGS Global Standard for Storage and Distribution Issue 4 that manage a bulk tanker fleet or some storage and transport operations in bulk tanks.

 

Here are some relevant requirements in the standard:

 

5.1.8 X

Where bulk tankers are used for transporting food or other vulnerable products, the company shall ensure compliance with relevant safety, legislative and scheme-specific requirements. Records of the vehicle load history and cleaning interventions shall be maintained and available to customers as required.

6.4.4 X

Where clean in place (CIP) systems are in use for cleaning tankers,…. There are specific detailed requirements for CIP Systems

6.4.6

Records shall be maintained of the cleaning undertaken. These shall include any cleaning of vehicles carried out by subcontractors (e.g. tanker cleaning) and, where required by customers, cleaning certificates.

Thanks for the information, I'm not sure that a facility that only washes tankers would be able to be certified under the Storage and Distribution Standard.  I would love some more feedback on that.

Thank is not what I am saying. I am saying that some providers of storage and transport operations (that are BRCGS certified) including bulk tanks are likely to have tank cleaning facilities.

Besides "EFTCO", there is also "ENFIT" (International Association Supply Chain Safety) in Europe, which deals with tank cleaning.
