Franco what do you think about tonight's match? Are the Ities going through?

I hope they won't pass through

Italian lama is too stupid and italian managers should have banned him ASAP instead of paying attorneys to defend.

It's a shame

By the way I am very happy for Greece :smarty:

France should book their flight back to Paris :bird: Greece forever :yay:

Not you as well Franco.

I would like to hear what an Italian thoroughbreed and world-renowned foot-balling connoisseur thinks of the current England football team. But unfortunately I couldn't find one…so what do you think Franco mate?

I would like to hear what an Italian thoroughbreed and world-renowned foot-balling connoisseur thinks of the current England football team.

Simon, I've never played football myself :oops2: hence I am allowed not only to speak and write about it: I am on the way to be renowned as an international level expert

England team is not my favourite, you know I prefer France team though I'm italian and support Greece for SDF competition.

It's a pretty complicated situation isn't it ?

I realize England has a couple of outstanding players: Wayne Rooney and very well known Manchester Utd star Paul Scholes

Their goalkeeper seems to be a good one too  and the coach is valuable and has a long international experience.

Beckham and Owen did not reach their expected level IMO :dunno:

Nevertheless I think they won't win the European Cup and confirm my forecast.

France #1 and Czech Republic #2.

#1 player is the "Czech Fury" or "Czech cannon" Pavel Nedved

Sweden 2-2 Denmark :yeahrite:

It was expected. I don't want to hear moralists talking over the 2-2

For sure Italy and Bulgaria would have done the same if they had the possibility

There are winners and losers in football and this time we are losers.

We must improve and learn from defeat.

In Italy there is a 20 years old forwarder named Gilardino who scored 23 goals I guess in 26 or 28 matches in Italian Championship :king: and was not considered talented enough for European Tournament

We need expert players :smarty: he's too young  it was said.

So what about Rooney :o ? Is he too young  ?

Do you know what does "Mamma butta la pasta !" mean ? :D

Literally it means "Hey Mum, you can start cooking the pasta".

It's a cult sentence. In sport terms it means that the match is over and we're ready to go home.

There was an american basketball coach and TV reporter very famous in Italy named Dan Peterson who used to say it just before the end of the match, as soon as the winner was clearly defined and asked his mum to start cooking the meal because he was going home.

He spoke italian with a strong american accent and was very funny to hear

I think it will be an exciting 2 - 2 draw, but then no goals in extra time...and I do believe England will at long last prevail in a penalty shoot-out. :o

Come on Simon, it's not the winning that counts it's the taking part

It's not true really…

Although we did have some desperate misfortune during the match, overall I was incredibly disappointed with the tactics England deployed. We have shown at times during the tournament that we can play passing football, but unfortunately we resorted to our naive, unsuccessful tactics of defending very deeply and hoofing long balls over the midfielders to our forwards. This ensured that Portugal reclaimed quick and easy possession of the ball and the pressure on England recycled.

To some extent this method of play was determined by the unfortunate injury to Rooney and the tiredness of the players. Well what do you expect after three games of carrying David Beckham? That said we could and should have won the game in the 90 minutes…

0 mins: The big match build up

Kids in bed, baby fed, open the wine; nervous anticipation, strangely confident its an exciting time.

3 mins: Michael Owen puts England in front with a clever and beautiful flicked shot

Sublime skill gives way to unfettered joy; so pleased for Owen he's our boy!

27 mins: Wayne Rooney limps off for England

Oh no! He's injured this player really counts; it's backs to the wall lads as the pressure mounts.

83 mins: Substitute Helder Postiga equalises for Portugal with a header

Oh no he's scored we couldn't hold out; no more defending its time to come out!

90 mins: Owen heads on to the bar, before Campbell bundles in the rebound only for his effort to be disallowed

The giant Sol rises to complete a perfect game; no goal say's the ref. it's a dire claim.

110 mins: Rui Costa scores with a brilliant strike for Portugal

How, where, why, what; an amazing goal I'm losing the plot.

115 mins: Frank Lampard equalises for England

Pressure, joy, anger released; The lions back in it, you can't tame the beast.

PENALTY SHOOT-OUT

Penalties loom now I know we can't win; they're always our downfall resignation sets in.

0-0: Beckham blazes over
1-0: Deco scores
1-1: Owen scores
2-1: Simao scores
2-2: Lampard scores
2-2: Rui Costa misses
2-3: Terry scores
3-3: Cristiano Ronaldo scores
3-4: Hargreaves scores
4-4: Maniche scores
4-5: Ashley Cole scores
5-5: Helder Postiga scores
5-5: Vassell's kick is saved
6-5: Goalkeeper Ricardo wins it

As predicted our players trudged to their inevitable doom; I'm so disappointed as I leave the room…

Simon

Hi Simon,

England lost for one reason. The ref was Swiss, the only thing they are good at is Banking. Yet another example of the ref being the main talking point of the game.I still remember the match against Argentina a few years ago when Sol Cambell headed in yet another goal that would have won us the match. I am convinced there is a European Conspiracy against England. So vote no to Europe. :king:

Roger I agree the ref was very, very biased but I doubt this was caused by his nationality. What do other (non English) people think of it? Was the ref a cheat or are we English blinded by patriotism?

BTW well done to Greece who used perfect tactics to defeat the French. Franco :yikes:

IMHO England's lost was caused mainly by themselves.

They didn't play THEIR football and tried a sort of control-game which they are not used to

I also think that the lions may have won if Wayne Rooney could play all the match :(

GREECE GREECE GREECE !!! B) Wonderful great team !!!

Come on Czech folks, you may go for the third place next saturday !!!

No offence but I like Holland...I think it's the orange kit and remembering them in the 74 World Cup I think, Rep, Kroll, Cryuff, Neyskins, I've probably spelt all their names wrong but they were great all the same.
