Hello all,

Hope you all are having a nice day.

I am here to seek guidance for an upcoming SQF Food Safety audit at our site. We are a Meat Processing Facility (not slaughtering) based in Canada who makes finished goods such as burgers, ribs, roasts, etc.

We are preparing an Approved Suppliers Program where we are requiring our meat suppliers (domestic and international) to provide us with Letter of Continuing Guarantee, GFSI certification, and Animal Welfare certificate. In most of Animal Welfare Certificates that we have received, there is no expiry or re-audit date.

Now, as default, our criteria for Animal Welfare certificate from Suppliers is same as other 2 documents i.e., renewal required each year. Is that considered too early for Animal Welfare? What are the ideas that we can adopt to make this requirement less aggressive?

Or what is the industry standard frequency for maintaining Animal Welfare Certificate from Supplier if we are only a Meat Processing Facility?

Thank you for your time.

A quick google search has found the auditing frequency to be:

BV lab----every 3 years for ISO/TS 34700

Certified Humane--annual

You will need to correspond your request with the validity of said certification and include that somehow into your program for clarity
