Hi Manoj,

Any specific number or ratio is not mentioned. The requirement is that it should be adequate in number to ensure that the degree of personal hygiene required by the organisation can be maintained. I suggest on every 20 workers one such facility is required.

In the UK, the number of toilets required is covered by the Health & Safety Executive.

However, suitable and adequate hygiene facilities is considered and Ethical subject, and could be considered in audit. There are however, within food standards, no defined numbers for this - but if it is easily identifiable that there are not enough toilets/washrooms for the volume of staff, then it can be raised as an issue.

The following link may be of use to you as guidance if you are outside the UK. If you are inside the UK, you will need to comply with this.

Have the right toilets and washing facilities - HSE

The food safety and quality codes tend to use general terms like "adequate" and leave the ratio up to building codes, personnel safety, etc.

If an auditor or inspector visits and sees people waiting in line, you're probably going to get questions.
