I though this might be interesting and entertaining for anyone working in food safety- a man is eating raw chicken every day for 100 days or until he gets 'a tummy ache'

Will be interesting to see what happens, he is now on day 35!

At least the smoked salmon is cooked lol.  But that bear tapeworm video is wild...

To the OP's poll, it's a true testament to the power of food safety as a whole that raw commercial chicken hasn't sickened the Instagrammer.  That said, it's only a matter of time until he gets a piece towards the end of its shelf-life...

Chicken is probably one of the last things I'd eat raw.

Campylobacter: Can we slow the clock on this chicken timebomb?

Campylobacter is globally the cause of one in four diarrhoeal diseases (WHO, 2020), and the

most common cause of food poisoning in the UK (NHS, 2021) with approximately 70 percent of all human campylobacter infections coming from chicken (FSA, 2021). While there are consistently more than 50,000 confirmed cases (2009–2017) in England and Wales alone (Public Health England, 2017), there are more than 246,000 cases reported in the EU annually. However, it is believed that the actual number is much closer to nine million each year (EFSA, 2021). This is likely due to gastrointestinal diseases often just having the symptoms treated rather than formal identification of the underlying cause.

The bear tapeworm images are gross   :sofa1:  - video here

Kind regards,

Tony

I was wondering about that too! How do we know isn't faux-chicken?

After watching that show Is it Cake? one too many times, I have doubled-down on my doubting of food shown online truly being what it says it is...haha

He's not eating commercial chicken from WalMart his Day 41 video caption explains that it wouldn't be accurate for him to use that type of chicken since it might not be the chicken he's getting sick from.

Well of course the chicken itself isn't going to make him sick, the bacteria, viruses and parasites from poor handling/sanitation will.

What better than bargain priced commercial chicken that hundreds of other people might have fondled in a supermarket to demonstrate that?  :sleazy:

If that's his defense, he's impugning Walmart's supplier approval program and in-house verification program over actual science of whether raw poultry will make you sick.  Having worked for companies that sell to them, more of our stuff gets kicked by their DC's than any other customer for things like temperature or customer complaints on the shelf.  Whereas I personally told my wife to stop buying fruit at Costco due to it growing mold mere days after we purchased.

Unless he's harvesting live chickens in his back yard for this experiment, his "I'm not buying from Walmart" defense is invalid.  All grocery stores are dealing with bulk poultry processors, and while quality is a factory, they should all be USDA regulated to the same standards.

...and people wonder why I take Ivermectin everyday!!!

Ivermectin is administered as a single dose or short-term treatment with a 3-6 month wait between treatments.

There's no way a healthcare provider would/could prescribe daily use, and the FDA itself has never approved daily use.

So... does that mean your Ivermectin is from a veterinary source?

Regardless, admitting to abusing prescription drugs on a FOOD SAFETY FORUM is bold. Very bold.
