Hi all,

quick question - does you calibrate your silos?

Any ideas how to do it in - house, or only external contactor can calibrate them?

Greetings Ruta,

Calibrate them against what? Does it have control for temperature or humidity? Weight platform maybe? Volume even (though I find it hard to do something about this one)?

Regards.

Propably the supplier of the weight platform system could do it for you when doing maintenance and write it down in the maintenance log that you should keep, because from my experience they do check that it is working/measuring properly. If not then you are going to have to rely on a calibration company.

Reason is that since it must be for high amounts of product or raw material, not even a really large standard weight could do the trick and furhtermore you should have it calibrated also annually or bi-annually to perform the internal calibration with that.

In prior role we had 2x 75k lbs. silos with 2 load cells.  We utilized our 3rd party scale calibration service provider to verify and calibrate the load cells on an annual basis, and also performed internal verification monthly.  The load cells were located on top of a dump room which you had climb up on.  Nothing like getting an arm work out carrying 400-500 lbs. of weights up a tight ladder.
