Yes.  Took about 4 seconds to search the code for you:

11.3.1.3 Personnel with exposed cuts, sores, or lesions shall not engage in handling or processing exposed products or handling primary (food contact) packaging or touching food contact surfaces. Minor cuts or abrasions on exposed parts of the body shall be covered with a colored, metal-detectable bandage or an alternative suitable waterproof and colored dressing

What about the verification of metal detectable bandages? I would assume that was the question here, going off the OP.  :oops2:

hi

7.2.4 Where metal detection equipment is used, a sample from each batch of plasters shall be successfully tested through the equipment and records shall be kept

BRC interpretation ;

If multiple metal detectors are used on site, it is good practice to use a risk assessment to identify the least sensitive detector, as using this will ensure that a lost plaster can be detected by all of the detectors on site.

For example you know that you have 4 MD`s, validate them against each plaster size (see attached)

Most of MDs shall detect plaster, pens etc - if not contact your supplier.  This risk assessment will prove that you can test new batches with any MD

;) same with metal detectable pens, markers, ear plugs, calculators etc.

Do the samples of bandages need to be tested through metal detectors and logged for SQF? I've never seen this before in SQF and am not as familiar with BRC. I am new to a plant where we used to be BRC, but now we are SQF (not BRC). Thanks for any feedback.  :ejut:

Well shoot, I'm PST in the states so my coffee hadn't quite kicked in yet lol.

I'd say it goes less towards verifying the bandages themselves and more towards validating that the machine can reject them.

11.7.4.3 Metal detectors or other physical contaminant detection technologies shall be routinely monitored, validated, and verified for operational effectiveness. The equipment shall be designed to isolate defective product and indicate when it is rejected.

Every time I've heard someone discuss testing the MD embedded items in a facility, it's not verifying that they're actually have the detectible bits inside of them, you're validating that the equipment you have can detect them.  Adding MD bandages, pens, whatever, becomes part of what the machine is purposely aiming to detect, so it's up to you to prove it'll do it.  In the past, I've defended not paying for expensive MD pens because the ones we permitted on the floor were in-house validated to trigger our detectors (even in pieces, and especially since they were the bank-type chain-pens firmly affixed to metal clipboards for filling out forms).
