Hi all, 

 

we have a "warming area"  in cold room is for cold room's worker take a rest in case there are feel cold. May i know what is the correct way  to have this procedures in place, etc, how frequent to do worker rotation that stay in warming area, how long going to be stay in it?

Hi carine,

 

For cold areas worker would normally be provided with adequate clothing to protect them from the cold. There should be warm staff facilities provided elsewhere.

 

I would be more concerned about rotation for personnel working in frozen storage areas.

May i know how long to be allowed for the break?

I have heard of places allowing for 10-15 minutes per hour, depending on the temp and their own protective clothing..

Workers should have protection first and foremost. A snowmobile suit perhaps??

You really should be looking at your local regulations for occupational health and safety on this

Our workplace at 16"c , plan to set let workers rest for 10 mins for every 2 hours during working hours

Blimey you're kind!  There are ready meal and sandwich factories running below 10oC.  I agree with a previous post, give the employees the clothing they need to be warm enough during work rather than providing a warm room.  If you're describing high care or high risk, a warm room could create a lovely environment for pathogen growth...  

In chilled what I'm used to is 2 breaks a day over an 8 hour shift so approx 3 hours or less before a break but that's more health and safety and wellbeing.

Oh my that is generous. 16C is 60F.

We have no additional breaks for warming and most of our rooms run 55-60F (13-16C)

I would change course on this!  You do not need to give extra breaks for working in 16C!!!!!!!!

 

Lots of folks work in space that is kept at 4C and dress in layers under the required clothing, and folks who work in frozen warehouses don't take extra breaks either (-18C)
