I would appreciate receiving input on the frequency of cleaning or not cleaning bulk fluid oil/lecithin tanks.  I realize there is a traceability/recall risk with not having a clean break in use.  My experience in bulk oil/lecithin commodities is not to clean these tanks after commissioning before first use or after maintenance or other special cause disruption. The thinking is to not introduce water into the tanks and ancillary equipment.

Thanks for your input.

Hi rdhendri,

Did you mean to say?: My experience in bulk oil/lecithin commodities is not to clean these tanks after commissioning before first use or after maintenance or other special cause disruption.

I would say that is definitely when you should be cleaning! Having supplied powder in bulk tankers I don’t see why cleaning cannot involve sufficient drying to remove excess water?

If you own and manage these bulk tanks and they are dedicated then there is less risk/need for cleaning and so perhaps then I would consider if a cleaning intervention is only required after a certain period of use.

Regards,

Tony
