Hello, our company is looking for a relatively cost effective option for metal detection. Further info-we would use for gummies, we would something that could be used with a conveyor belt or that is handheld.  Any suggestions are much appreciated!

I would stay away from a hand-held.

 

Seen these in use, never works out the way you think it will.

 

So, individual gummies running pre- package or packages?

I was wary of them and appreciate the confirmation.  It would be preferable to do them after packaging (they go into mylar bags)

Both Mettler-Toledo and LOMA handle Mylar packaging just fine.

 

You may find it advantageous to either buy a rebuilt/Updated one or a new one, but on a lease basis that can save you some money.

 

The only time I've seen any issue with Mylar running thru a detector was when the thickness of the Mylar was off-standard and then it was just a little bit of adjusting needed.

 

We have an order ready for a LOMA machine that will be detecting gummies packaged in glass jars.

If you have a foil layer sometimes that can cause some issues with sensitivity.  Are you bagging using a multi head weigher?  One cost effective route could be using a throat metal detector which fits onto the base of the weigher and the sweets / candy would pass through it straight before the vertical heat seal.  That way you metal detect straight before bagging and no packaging effects.  They're not all that complicated either so are often pretty cost effective.  You can get machines which then are set up to make a double length bag and stop if there's a detection so you have an effective fail safe to not going into a normal bag and accidentally being included (as it lacks the reject systems on conveyor metal detectors.)

 

If that's not an option, then definitely get in a trial machine or hire first to make sure you can get the sensitivity you want.

Thank you both for the input, it is much appreciated.  I do think we will opt for the throat or free fall metal detector in our case, currently reached out Fortress and LOMA. Mettler-Toledo unfortunately will not go anywhere near Cannabis.

I can only guess it has to do with getting paid for their services/goods.  Banks are still avoiding them until federal law changes.
