I am not advocating the promotion of our company's product which is a natural protein, but during the course of my discussion with one of the senior professors in the bio-technology department in a reputed University in India(where I had gone during my vacation) he was talking about the toxicity of other sugar substitutes like aspartame, sucralose, saccharin, cyclamates etc. Why are they not banned or withdrawn from market? Right in front of me I have a product called 'Equql' which I brought from India and it contains Aspartame as one of the ingredients?

Is it that slow 'poisoning' is permitted?

Regards,

A Sankara Narayanan

Are sugar substitutes like aspartame, sucralose, saccharin, cyclamates etc. banned in any countries??? If no and they are toxic then I guess slow poisoning is permitted. Anyway Sankara, what are your products again?

Simon

Dear Simon,

Our product is thaumatin, a natural sweetener obtained from the fruits found in Afriacan forests. It is supposed to be 2500-3000 times sweeter than sugar.

Interesting Sankara, who are your customers and what kinds of products is thaumatin used in?

Dear Simon,

Thaumatin has a wide variety of applications being a flavour enhancer, synergiser and effective masking agent. It has applications in the following:
- table top sweeteners
- chewing gums
- beverages
- yoghurts
- pharmaceutical products
etc

We are the second company in the world to manufacture this product. We are Kosher certified and are hoping to get ISO 22000 certified soon.

regards,

A Sankara Narayanan
