Good day everyone,

I am working on our Allergen Program at the moment more specifically the cleaning verification part.

Does anyone have a suggestion on an Allergen Residue Kit? (name, where it was purchased etc etc.)

We have dairy, tree nuts, and soy protein running on our equipment at different times.

Thank you,
Francine

Dear FSH:

I have attended a seminar 2 years ago. A big company did mention a few names of the test kit but I did not know the function and supplier.

(a) R-Biopharm
(b) Veratox
© Tepnel
(d) Neogen

May be you can try to search online based on the name given.

Yong

We have used the Tepnel kits in our company; I have found them to be fairly user friendly and they do work quite well. We used positive controls (e.g. delibrately not cleaning an egg product off properly and swabbing it) to ensure that they do work.

They come in sticks quite similar to pregnancy test kits and can be used either to swab surfaces as we used them for or testing foods for cross-contamination.

However big downside they cost €12 (£9.50) a test so you would want to be fairly sparingly in using them.

In my opininon, they are really there for a HACCP or cleaning validation and not for ongoing monitoring

Here is a link to Health Canada information on allergen test kits:

I recommend that you contact both Health Canada and the CFIA to get their thoughts on your question.

Here is some more information on allergen testing that may be of interest:
