HI everyone! At this time, a lot of retailers in the US do not recognize Globalgap as it is considered not strong in the area of food safety (microbiological). Now, I looked at the checklist supplied to Daz for BRC and it seems like a good program at first blush. Again, many retailers do not accept BRC in US--do you think it is out of ignorance about the program? Any insight would be much appreciated.

Probably a lot of people in the USA are not aware of the BRC standards, the other thing is the B in BRC stands for British, so that hasn’t helped the BRC spread their excellent standards as widely as they would have liked. They have done very well, but maybe could have done better without the B. In fact the latest version of the standard has dropped the BRC altogether and is just called “the Global Standard for Food” or something like that. It may be too late to break the states though as you now have FPA and SQF.

Thanks Simon, that does help! FYI, the NFPA audit has gone by the wayside in popularity.

One more question: Does BRC require environmental microbiological testing for storage and distribution centers?

Do you mean within the BRC Food Standard itself? The only reason I ask is becase the BRC also have a GMP standard for packaging and also one for storage and distribution.
