How we read this 35 x 102 or 7 x 103 as a result of staph or coliform colonies count (for example ), I mean what is the meaning of 103 or 102 ?

Thanks Pops.It is ten to the power of X.
The number is superscript basically states the number of zeros that exist after the initial digits.
ie 35 x 102 = 3500 cfu
7 x 103 = 7000 cfu

i.e. 35 x 100 or 3500
7 x 103 is 7 x 10^3
i.e. 7 x 1000 or 7000
