Same thing happened to me last winter. Fortunately managed to swerve into the curb and stop. 
You have 4WD and think it's ok in the snow until ............. you hit some ice.

It did happen to me last year, December 19th around 7.30 pm. returning home from my Brothers house (it was his birthday and his son’s birthday). I can go about three different ways back home and I only choose at the last moment; on this occasion I decided to drive through Summerseat (a very bad move) as I have to drive down Cliff Avenue – it’s quite steep. Once we were committed over the top I knew it was a mistake, the car slid down, wobbled a bit as I tried to gain control and then did a 360 and bumped the kerb. I then managed to limp down. Never again.
A gang of local children stood at the bottom of Cliff Avenue cheering as each car teetered over the precipice.
