Hi,

I'm new to posting on this forum but I do browse through a lot and get a lot of information from this site and am thankful for that.

I had a question - if we make a chocolate bar using rice milk instead of real milk - are we legally allowed to call it a rice milk bar or would it have to be called chocolaty bar with rice milk. I have posted this similar question on the canadian forum to know if the same rules as US applies there too.

Thanks in advace for your replies.

[Hi

One of the best places to start is using the Guide to Food Labelling and Advertising found in CFIA's website

In Health Canada's Food and Drug regulations "Part B Foods" http://laws-lois.jus...C.R.C.,_c._870/ you will find more standards definitions on chocolate.

Also try contacting an inspector with CFIA they can clarify some items.

Good luck.

Mac

Thanks a lot for your response Mac.

I did indeed contact an inspector at CFIA and a specialist at FDA. Both of them were helpful in guiding me to the respective links to get an idea on how we can legally name our products. As long as we are honest, do not mislead the consumer and meet the definitions as set by the regulatory bodies, there shouldnt be a problem.
