Hello,

Does anyone have a return to work policy they could share?

I have procedures in place, ie  "doctor's certificate" but require a policy.

Thanks,

Paula :helpplease:

Dear Paulajgr,

This is an example of a policy in the style of a business rule. Tenses / "conditional" usage are up to user. It may or may not match yr existing  procedure.

Fitness to work and return to work policy

Food handlers have a legal responsibility under the Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995 to report to their employer if they are suffering from or think they may be suffering from a foodborne illness, infected wounds or skin infections that could carry pathogens.

Where food handlers are returning to work following illness or overseas travel (especially to countries with a warm climate or poor sanitation standards), they should be required to complete a ‘return to work’ questionnaire before returning to food handling duties.

The Department of Health publication Food Handlers: Fitness to work recommends that food handlers be regarded as fit to return to work after illness if they have not suffered from symptoms for 48 hours after treatment has ceased.

The questionnaire details / scope are obviously going to be product / process / location dependent. For example here is a near encyclopaedic document -

Attached File  US food code Chapter2.pdf   74.81KB   126 downloads (see  2-201.11 ). Other examples of scope content  / forms can be found in links below.

The local legislatory implications are also likely be relevant (NZ no idea), eg see these threads –

Hi Paula,

Charles has posted some useful info as usual

Your policy is that you exclude food handlers suffering from or potentially suffering from a foodborne illness, infected wounds or skin infections that could carry pathogens.

That you brief staff of the rules that apply and the need to complete a 'return to work form'

That all staff returning from a period of illness or overseas travel to risk areas are required to complete a 'return to work form'

Any issues identified in the form follow your procedures for screening/clearance prior to commencing work
- Referral to Occupational Health or Medical Practitioner

Posted by Charles 'For example here is a near encyclopaedic document - US food code Chapter2.pdf (see  2-201.11 )'  - Yes but maybe suitable for reference

Regards,

Tony
