Hi All -

We manufacture several processed fruit products marketed with sugar-free claims - they have been specially formulated to meet FDA's sugar-free claim (<0.5g sugar/serving).  We are looking for an easy test method for total sugar that we can perform in-house.  We do not have the capability to run an HPLC instrument nor do we want to expense of using an outside lab for every production run.

Any recommendations for a method that would provide a quantitative result for sugar?

Thanks!

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer

To get the result quickly you need to buy a test kit which can measure total sugar and give you a results to validate your comment that is total sugar is less than 0.5 g/service.

Following link will be one of the many available kits for the required test.

Hi Humaid Khan,

Thks for the link.

Unfortunately when i view it in FFox 42  an unremovable pop-up appears completely blocking the text. i daresay it may work in other browsers.

Good way to lose business.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for the test kit recommendation.  Unfortunately, this method only tests for glucose and fructose, and I need to measure maltose and sucrose as well.

Dear Jennifer,

If your product does not contain any reducing agent then you can try chemical methods like Lane-Eynon or phenol-sulphuric acid ones (pls google for reference). However, pls do check the detection limit of these methods before trying.

If your lab has a spectrophotometer, then your can try colorimetric methods which are reliable at trace levels of analytes.
